The Story – Firebrand #1 – 9 (1996)

Firebrand #1 – 9 (1996) : NYC Police Detective Alejandro Sanchez and his partner Leo are on the case of a serial abductionist: one who has kidnapped over 10 missing children. The abductor realizes that Sanchez is closing in, and sets a bomb off in Sanchez’s apartment. The blast sends Sanchez flying to the pavement below, shattering his legs. Luckily, he is rushed to the hospital, where they manage to stabilize his condition. A visit from his brother Javier reveals that not only can Sanchez walk again, but that mysterious philanthropist Noah Hightower has funded the implanting of cybernetics to replace his legs. The cyberneticist, Dr. Newton P. Lovell, introduces Alex to Hightower, where the philanthropist reveals his true reasons behind his generosity: he wants to transform Alex into a super-hero. Lovell has created a battle armor that can interface with Alex’s cybernetics. Alex declines at first, but after his partner Leo is ambushed by thugs while on the abductor’s trail, Alex dons the armor to save him.
