Black Adam by Christopher Priest (TPB) (2023) : In Christopher Priest’s Black Adam, the immortal antihero Teth-Adam contracts an incurable, god-killing plague that threatens his life, forcing him to choose a successor to protect the nation of Kahndaq. He bestows his powers upon Malik White, a young medical student and distant descendant, but the transfer binds them together in a fractured, tumultuous dynamic where Malik resists the mantle while Teth-Adam fights to retain his fading rule. As they grapple with their shared power, Black Adam must confront the Sovereignty—a pantheon of ancient Mesopotamian gods seeking vengeance—while navigating modern global politics, his own dark history, and the terrifying reality of his own mortality.
